Over the next few months, Eternity church will be going through a series called "Good church vs Great church".
It has been a very interesting topic as I've delved into the scriptures and asked God to reveal to me and Eternity church what it means to be a GREAT church.
I can't go past the early church of Acts. The way that they went about fulfilling the work the God had for them was inspiring. I would love to have a church where we fulfilled the scripture "And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:47. The outworking of that scripture takes many forms, through different ministries and programs that are within the church. It would be neglectful of the church to just see people saved, for we are called to "go forth and make disciples". The church plays many roles in the encouragement of believers, and a GREAT church acknowledges that, but does not set up Christians to hinge their relationship with Jesus on the work of the local church.
A GREAT church aims to equip and encourage believers for the work of the saints (be the hands and feet of Christ). And just as they were doing this in the early church of Acts, so must we, be equipping our people and sending them out to be and do what God has called them to. Again, this too can take many forms; to be pastors, mums, office workers, managers, entrepreneurs, evangelists, tradies, volunteers, board members, prophets, babysitters, teachers, carers, etc. If we were to put them under one title, we are all called to be worshippers of Christ and influencers of our context and community.
A good church is a nice place to go, but a GREAT church is where we want to be because a GREAT church is moving forward, not cosy with where they are but looking forward to where God is taking them!
Here at Eternity Church, we are excited about what God IS doing and what He is GOING to do!!!
