Jesus is the example we should follow for being able to connect with people around us. We read in Matthew 11, of Jesus being known as a friend of drunkards, of despised tax collectors, being also a friend of sinners, eating and drinking with the gluttons and so forth. Jesus did this because these people needed God: they needed to have light in their lives, to experience love and a hope of a future in God. Jesus connected with these people by mixing with them, going to where they were, not sitting idly in the temple (church building).
Jesus chose from the people who came to know him a team of disciples who he spent a lot of time with, connecting with them; through meals, sharing, travelling and persecution and so on. He poured himself into them to make them mighty men of God, through teaching them, through experience, talking with and spending time with them and praying.
We need to connect with unsaved people by getting among them and building relationships with them; we need to also spend more time building and nurturing those Christians around us to become more Christ like. Jesus has set us an example of how to connect and build relationships with those around us.
Let us follow His example, His ways are best.
