Early history of the Morwell Apostolic Church
Since at least 1950, the Lord had been speaking through prophesy about planting churches throughout Gippsland.
At an Apostle’s Meeting at Richmond on 22 Jul 1957, the Lord gave direction through a prophecy spoken by Ps Tate specifically to start a work at Morwell, and again to pray for Gippsland. This was confirmed prophetically later in the year.
On 25 May 1958, Len Outhred and Dick Hayward visited Morwell and assisted George Dibsdale in ministry here. Len prophesied on that occasion for prayer for the future of Sale and Morwell, and for the future works at Wonthaggi, Traralgon, Moe and Bairnsdale and the gateway assemblies of Oakleigh and Dandenong was also included. The Lord said He would send a shepherd to oversee the district.
On 29 May 1958 there was a prophesy that a string of assemblies would be raised up in Gippsland.
Len Outhred recalls the Lord saying they were to pray that the vision would become fact.
Paul Grant and family arrived in Morwell on 27 January 1965, as the first full-time pastors. They occupied a house bought by the Church at 55 Holmes Road. After only 5-6 days settling the family here, Paul was directed back to Vanuatu to assist the new missionaries in their settling-in period there (he was away for about 10 to 11 weeks in all). Meetings began in the Grant’s home at Holmes Road on 23 May 1965, with nine people attending (including the Grants and a newly arrived Apostolic from Ballarat named Stan Clark). From that date until December 1969 by God's grace the fellowship grew to become a self-supporting Apostolic Church with a membership of around 50. (Researched and written by Ps Andrew Cairns)
